Perth Glory will fly home to Western Australia on Saturday after plans were shelved for them to extend their A-League road trip by one more match.
Glory players and staff haven’t been home since leaving Perth two weeks ago.
In that time the Glory have played games in Victoria against Western United, Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City, and are again in action on Friday night against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium.
Due to the uncertainty over border closures in Western Australia, A-League officials had considered flying the Glory back to the east coast for one more match, which would have been against Brisbane Roar.
But the Glory were against the idea and as planned, will on Saturday leave Adelaide for Perth.
However, other changes have been made to the A-League draw in the battle against COVID-enforced travel restrictions and border closures.
A host of matches have confirmed for the next month, including games this Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Roar will host Macarthur FC at Dolphin Stadium on Tuesday night, while 24 hours later Western Sydney Wanderers meet Melbourne Victory at Bankwest Stadium.
However scheduled matches between Newcastle and Western United (Wednesday), and the Glory and Melbourne Victory (Saturday week), have been postponed.
A-League boss Greg O’Rourke said work was being done on the “balance” of the draw.
“Based on the information that we have now, we hope that we will be able to publish a larger number of fixtures within the next two weeks which goes much deeper into the season than border restrictions have allowed in the last month,” O’Rourke said.
“We know how difficult it has been for fans and other stakeholders to plan ahead in many areas of their lives with COVID-19, and we have been no different.
“However, our next fixture updates will be created with a view to provide a longer term schedule.”
