Iowa Barn Foundation Barn Tours

Every year the Iowa Barn Foundation holds two Barn Tours, the All-State Barn Tour, held every September, and the Spring Barn Tour, held in June. If you can not attend the Tours, you will find details on this website, and in our Iowa Barn Magazine (also on this website).

About our Spring Barn Tours:

The Spring Barn Tours cover barns in only one or two counties, different counties each year. They have been held every spring since 2002 (except 2020). See Previous Spring Tours.

The 2021 Spring Barn Tour will be held on Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jack Smith, board member, has orchestrated a mesmerizing tour of Stone City and the prison area, so we look forward to this 2021 special Spring Barn Tour during the spring of 2021.

About our All-State Barn Tours:

The statewide All-State Barn Tour is the most important event on our tour calendar, typically held on a weekend in September.

Important and historic barns throughout Iowa are opened to the public during the two-day, free, self-guided All-State Barn Tours. These self-guided annual tours, which attract visitors from around the country, are free and open to the public.

The barns on the tour have received either matching grants, or an Award of Distinction (Award of Distinction icon) from the Iowa Barn Foundation.

Some barns have special displays and presentations. In addition, visitors have the opportunity to join the Iowa Barn Foundation if they are not already a member.

The barns on tour are typical of Iowa barns that have served farmers well. These restored barns illustrate how barns can be brought back to their original glory.

Some of the barns have been featured in newspapers such as the Des Moines Register and Iowa Farmer Today. See links to some of these publications on our Barns & Museums web page.

The 2020 All-State Barn Tour was held Sept 26 & 27, 2020 (20th Annual).  The 2021 All-State Barn Tour will be held on September 25 & 26, 2021.
